The Onion Movie: Revealing The Raw Truth
DVD Review

The concept of The Onion Movie is a fairly witty one, combining a feature film and nightly news farce. Director Tom Kuntz and writers Robert Siegel and Todd Hanson, center the film on The Onion News crew and their struggles with providing meaningful, hard-hitting journalism in the face of corporate, consumer America. The creation of the fictional news team leaves tons of room for Daily Show-esque socio-political humor, and Kuntz makes this the core of the film with the thread of a storyline taking a backseat. Parody-based mockery is run amuck on behalf of Britney Spears, Bill Gates, Mid-Western wiggas and even Steven Segal (who takes a mighty, self-inflicted jab to the jewels), all with mixed results. The Onion's not stale, but surely not satisfying.
