A Rough Guide to Music of Hungarian Gypsies
Editor's Review:
This album includes an eclectic blend of vivacious music. There are many different vocal stylings, both male and female. The musicianship is technical and enthusiastic, particularly on tracks “Aven, Aven Romale” and “Botolo.” Complicated percussion maintains a strong rhythmic pulse throughout the album. An extremely wide assortment of instruments are played on various songs—too many to list here. The track “Pundela” is dominated by melismatic female vocals, sounding almost Indian. The epic “Calusul Dance” features violin reminiscent of Irish folk, which reaches a frenzied pace partway through the song. Whistles and group-singing make “Lingara/Csavargok” lively and wild. The CD also comes with computer content, including music and travel information.Write Your Own Review
