Danava

Editor's Review:

Just when you thought stoner rock was getting boring, fresh blood is served. Portland’s Danava channels classic greats like Cream, Rush, Aerosmith, Iron Butterfly and Sabbath. In the new tradition of retro rockers like The Darkness and Wolf Mother, Danava revives their influences without beating them back to death. At no point do they sound like a tribute band. The guitar sounds are deep and fuzzy, the riffs are shameless and egotistical and the drums have the same dirty, workhorse kind of charm that made Bonham a household name. And last but not least, straight out of a time machine, Dusty Sparkles on lead vocals, people. The band really hits their stride in the song “Spinning Temple Shifting,” a demonstration of driving simplicity and coordinated riffs.
