Mötley Crüe, Megadeth & Anthrax

If I could have seen this line-up ten years ago I would have probably come in my shorts. My walls were plastered with posters of metal bands that I'm now ashamed to admit liking. I loved metal, but with age it kind of lost its appeal. Though on nostalgia alone I had to go to this show, and thanks to the Syn I got to meet Nikki Sixx (that was cool huh-huh-huh).

Anthrax was up first; delayed by the beer line, I missed the first couple of songs. By the time I got to my seat I had seen more mullets and leather on aging Hessians than is allowed by law in most states. I was surprised by how good the sound was. For this being the first date of the tour they had it together pretty well. They played new songs and old ones. I was stoked to hear them play "Caught in a Mosh" and "Anti-Social." Their set was pretty short, but they played their asses off. They ended the set with their signature cover of Pubic Enemy's "Bring the Noise," and left the stage with the crowd in a roar.

I think I was the only person in the crowd that doesn't like Megadeth. Their first few albums were alright, but in general I think they suck. I was a little pissed when they put on a good show. They played a lot of newer stuff and didn't play "Peace Sells" or "Killing is My Business." The only good song they played was "Mary Jane." I was really pissed when they played "Symphony of Destruction," I hate that song. But as I said before, everyone but me loved it. The place was getting packed and the crowd was as loud as the band. They had lots of energy and sounded tight, but I still think Dave Mustaine is a jerk-off. By the time they left the stage everyone was on their feet cheering while they took their bow.

"There's one thing I'm really proud of, we've done more drugs than any other band on the fucking planet!" Nikki Sixx is the shit. I didn't think that the Crüe could function without Tommy Lee and his cock, but I was wrong. They opened with "Kickstart My Heart" and the whole place just rocked. I can't believe guys who are my mother's age can still do this. They had fireworks, slutty-looking back-up singers, the whole nine yards. They played a few new ones as well as the classics everyone came to see; lighters were raised to "Home Sweet Home," and the horns were raised for "Shout at the Devil." The stage was sick ramps and facsimiles of bars and tattoo shops. They even brought out a fucking flamethrower, I don't think it worked as well as the planed, but was still badass. They are supposed to be touring for a year, so I hope they come back this way.
