Buffalo Creek
LaSalle's, Chico, CA
2001-05-09
I had just woken up from a long nap when it was time to head to LaSalle's.
I had been up all night writing some stupid essay and had a lot more to
do. The last thing I felt like doing was getting drunk and rockin' out.
But hey, it's my job. So, being the hard working man that I am, I went
to LaSalle's.
Fortunately, Buffalo Creek had the cure for my dead week blues. The first set hit off nicely, with the good time rock 'n' roll vibe being felt all through LaSalle's. These guys get better each time I see them. Their harmonizing has reached a new level, capable of lifting your feet off the ground. "Angelina" was a memorable song, with that California soul and a nice Rolling Stones tinge to it. After a few songs and a couple stiff drinks, I was feeling good as new.
The second set started off with lead vocalist, Bryn Loosely, playing a few solo tunes that set a more intimate feel for the rest of the night. I was pleased to see the place was filling up nicely for it being the middle of the week before finals, and they picked the right spot to release some stress. When the rest of the band took the stage, they announced they were going to play an all-cover song set. On a typical occasion this may not seem that great, but we all know how much easier it is to get loose to songs you know, and this was a perfect temporary remedy for stressing over all the papers and flashcards waiting at home.
As I am about to leave Chico for (hopefully) greener pastures (Chico is pretty green), it's nice to know there is still a band here that epitomizes how I see and will remember Chico. If you haven't seen these guys yet, you owe it to yourself to check them out at the Concert in the Park on May 23rd.
Comments down for maintenance.
