Oddman, Will Haven & Movement

the Brick Works, Chico, CA

2001-04-05

Jaded by Chico’s own Nowhere X Nowhere, The Brick Works was caught with a surprisingly small number of attendees on Thursday night. An all-ages event with three hardcore bands, this show was almost perfect but did have one problem — that being the lack of draw the show pulled.

Movement, a rapcore band from San Jose, opened the show. They are comprised of two guitars, bass, drums and vocals. This group can be compared to others, like Vision of Disorder and Hed P.E.

Huge in Sacramento’s local music scene, Will Haven is known for consistently putting on tight shows. They have the basic setup of one guitar, bass, drums and vocals. With two albums on Revelation Records and Grady’s appearance on the new Soulfly album, Primitive, these guys are surely on their way to mainstream success. They have toured with Slipknot and the Deftones. Starting April 13th, Will Haven will be hitting the road with Soulfly and Insolence.

Oddman came on alive and screaming, not toning down the show just because there was a smaller-than-expected crowd. The guys played heavy, and the audience responded with a torrential mosh pit and shouts for more. Vocalist Scott Wallace threw out several copies of their latest CD, Hollow Eyes, in appreciation of their devout fans. Afterwards, I asked him for his thoughts on how the show went. He replied, "Any opportunity to play with Will Haven is seized. And as for the crowd tonight, it was not as big as our CD release show, but it was just as enthusiastic, and the kids were awesome. We really appreciate all the support Chico gives us."

On April 14th, Oddman will be joining Will Haven in Phoenix, Arizona at the Nile, opening for Roadrunner Records’ latest talent, Downer. Looks like our local boys are finding their way to take the nation.
