Karl Denson's Tiny Universe & That 1 Guy

Friends who have never been to Chico ask, "What the hell is there to do in Chico?" Verily, I said the same thing before moving here recently and creating an attachment to this humble town. So, when a friend from Brooklyn called me up a few weeks ago and asked if I'd heard of That One Guy ("He's finally being discovered in New York"), he was surprised that this musical genius was making his way through our (I can say that now) town.
So, I'll make this brief. The show was simply outstanding. This was my first experience with That One Guy, so when he got on the floor and started breakdancing or creating those funky, echoing, outrageous sounds from his Magic Pipe, I was really taken aback. After the show, I heard people saying things like, "That was different, huh…He really plays it up…That was unique, I've never seen anything like it…Every time I see him it becomes more intense…"
"I'm That One Guy," he said numerous times. And if I could do the shit he could do, (well, and if I was I man) I'd be saying the same thing proudly and confidently, because there is absolutely not another artist quite like this one guy. He had some styley t-shirts for sale in the lobby as well.
A few more people showed up for the Karl D. performance. (In terms of numbers, the turnout was lousy, but who really cared — everyone in attendance got their groove on.) Besides a quick break to the loo, I didn't stop dancing the entire performance. They played tracks off their album, due out May 5th (like the song, "Who Are You"), and once again, I was impressed with the band's energy — such chutzpah these musicians have! As they sang, "The music is good for soul," the crowd joined in and we were all feeling it — total satisfaction.
