Battle of the Bands featuring Hit by a Semi, The Ballistics, Pyrx, Chingus, Indecisive Youth, Palmetto & Autumn Era

First of all, I went into the show feeling a little under the weather, but I said, “fuck it” and pushed myself into believing that I’d have a good time regardless, seeing as how some of the best in Chico’s live acts were on the program. I got there just as Chingus was setting up and said “hi” to the usual concertgoers before finding my first seat of the night.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Chingus set. They couldn’t have been better. Curtis strummed his epic riffs with perfect form, always followed by those wonderful “DUH-DUH-DUH” rhythms matched by the rest of the band. The groundwork for a great concert was set.
I don’t know if the cash prizes had any effect on the bands, but something certainly seemed different about all of them. The Ballistics, Pyrx, Indecisive Youth, Palmetto, Autumn Era and Hit by a Semi all kicked ass as usual, but there was something different; it may have been tension or worry. Money does have a tendency to fuck shit up, or at least confuse it every once in a while.
I’m going to have to skip to the end of the show, because of what happened during Hit by a Semi’s performance. If I don’t, it’d be kind of like ignoring a giraffe fucking a kitten in the living room of your home. For those of you who weren’t there, Hit by a Semi had everybody come up on stage and get crazy because it was the lead singer’s birthday. I didn’t go up, because I was puking…but a friend of mine did and she said she “was yanked by a security guard.” Yes, that’s right; people were “yanked” by security guards at a local show — whoopy.
But in the end, I’d have to side with the well-respected judges that Indecisive Youth deserved the gold; or $500, whatever. Congratulations to all of the bands; they all deserve something for their performances, if you ask me.
