Sinew, Esoteric & Smeat

Upon my arrival, I was met with the realization that there was a band that had just finished up their set, though show time was established at 10 PM in local press. So, I have missed yet another band, this time Smeat, though I can hardly call this one my fault. After talking with members of Sinew, I was told that the band played admirably and loud as hell, so let’s go with that, shall we?
Esoteric took the stage after what seemed like forever. Nevertheless, I was anxious to see this group as rumor has them pegged as an engaging live act. Esoteric did not disappoint me one bit as they unleashed riff-heavy metal assaults, as well as some reggae / rap styling. The group’s vocalist incorporated the advantages of having a wireless microphone and spent a majority of his time nestled among the many patrons by the bar. The band’s energy and talent remained evident in every song, though the singer’s vocals were muffled to a dull roar thanks to the presence of two fret frying guitarists. Esoteric left the stage after an exhausting amount of time and made way for the monster that is Sinew.
Sinew is the type of metal band that doesn’t screw around with genre hopping or stage setup, they play hard and fast and portray an ambiance of yesteryear’s metal that has been missed for sometime. Sinew’s ambition and in-your-face attitude dominated the eager crowd. The group’s vocalist sang with a horrific scowl that complemented the rest of the band’s artistry on their respective instruments. With each new song came a new reason for me to consider shedding my indifferent exterior and instead start banging my head like I was at a Quiet Riot show. This course of action was quickly abandoned when two men rushed by me, carrying a girl who had supposedly broken her ankle in the mayhem. Displaying furious energy and proficient guitar and drum skills, Sinew pleased me to no end. So ended a night of metal that I’m positive will not be forgotten anytime soon by those in attendance. Sometimes, old school metal is more than appreciated; it’s downright necessary.
