This last Thursday, a monumental hip-hop event proved to me that the town of Chico should change its name to Gurp City. The show had definitely built up hype. After all, this was to be the last G-Pek show in Chico, the supposed retirement from the rap game by Chapmantown rap god Thug E. Fresh and a gurpness extravaganza. Don’t worry; the show lived up to expectations.
Show opened up with DJ Pone mixing. Eventually, his partner in scratch, Snayk Eyes, joined him on stage. The two ran through what seemed to be an improv set that came off sounding better than a lot of DJs’ sets. The duo effortlessly blessed The Brick Works with an amazing set, that almost went unnoticed. I highly doubt that all in attendance realized the greatness of the pair on stage, nonetheless, the two performed what was truly an excellent show.
DJ Facials was next on the cut. Facials kills it every time he touches the wax. This savage dropped some of the classics as well as the new club bangers, for all in attendance. The crowd was still small for The Brick Works, so Facials worked the crowd in front of him as more began to file in, for what would soon prove to be pure crunkness.
Next in line were Bay Area natives Eddie K and Z-Man, collectively known as E-Z. The soon-to-be-famous Z-Man dove into his rap insanity. Z-Man is crazy and Eddie K is fresh; quite a combo. And on a side note about E-Z, all I got to say is that you’ve gotta love Eddie K. I don’t care who you are, or anything else about you, but never diss Eddie K. That’s not patriotic. E-K rips, and if you don’t like him, fuck you.
Local hip-hop super group Six Feet Deep was up next, to perform what appears to be their last concert, ever. With a simply amazing hype man, in the form of Big Bobby, who will now go by the name of Gucci Bob (this cat was laced up in an ill Gucci suit, and still he didn’t give a fuck), got the crowd hyped for the last Six Feet Deep show ever. It was around this time that everything got hazy. I know SFD killed it, and I remember random things like the barbershop quartet style song, the Irish Car Bomb Contest, the condoms, “Alcohol” with the girl singing, Fay Dog in his pimp suit, stuff like that, but I can’t put everything back together in order. I think that pretty much sums up the concert; it was tight, but I don’t remember it all that well. Oh yeah, and G-Pek is the man. His last show was great, as usual. Congrats and thank you to Six Feet Deep. So when is the reunion show?
