Griswald

the Goods

Editor's Review:

The debut album from Chico local band Griswald, The Goods, plays much more like a veteran effort, successfully mixing many different styles of music without sounding overly hectic. Reggae-style verses give way to heavy, almost metal-sounding choruses. But unlike many bands in the post-Sublime reggae pop-core genre, Griswald has more than adequate musical chops, chops that they display readily. Griswald reminds me of 311, without the white-rastaman vocals, and without the stoner overtones. This similarity is also present in the production values, which emphasize the mid-range bass thump and chunky guitar riffs. The Goods definitely lives up to its name; it's a quality, professional record, capable of taking Griswald a long way.
