Alkaline Trio

From Here to the Infirmary

Editor's Review:

Alkaline Trio is the name on the lips and minds of all those with the nose for the new in the world of emo-pop indie-rock. Musically, Alkaline Trio definitely have what it takes to satisfy those who long for more than just octave chords over shifting chord bases — they have successfully left behind the troublesome tendency of many emo-pop bands to fall back on paint-by-numbers chord progressions. Yet they do this without sounding overly complicated, thus maintaining their pop possibilities without blatantly dumbing down their music for the masses to enjoy. But maybe that wouldn't have been such a bad idea; for all their seeming pop-sensibility and despite the word-on-the-street buzz that has accompanied this album, the Alkaline Trio just aren't catchy enough to break out of the sub-mainstream level in which they currently reside. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but just don't expect Alkaline Trio on TRL anytime soon.
