the Good Life

Black Out

Editor's Review:

Oh, the rarity of a band that can use electronics without the machines overpowering the songs. Just a step above acoustic, The Good Life supplements their guitars and drums with effects and synthesizers, but the emotion of the songwriting stands above any electronic cleverness. While not nominated for any Grammys here on Earth, track four, "O'Rourke's, 1:20 a.m.," is certainly nominated for song of the year in that alternate dimension where the masses don't suck down Whopper Jr. with cheese versions of American pop music. Kicking off with a nicely fucked-up, electronic beat and gentle organs, the song builds into an anthem of alienation: Keep the conversation quick - and keep them interested! / You're different and they sense it - your eyes can't disguise it. Owing a bit to The Cure school of songwriting, The Good Life is the best thing to come out of Nebraska since… never mind.
