...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Editor's Review:
…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead is the hottest rock commodity
to come out of the rich music scene of Austin, Texas in some time, and their
third full-length release - their first on a major label - is exactly what fans
have been waiting for from this rock quartet. The most attractive thing about
…Trail of Dead's music is the combination of melodic and harmonic sonic
wash, emotive lyrical delivery and a strangely warped but catchy attention to
the tenets of pop songwriting - all wrapped up in a mischievous cloak and sporting
a smug sneer.
Though Source Codes & Tags is a new …Trail of Dead album, the
band's own tone is unmistakable. Songs like "It Was There That I Saw You"
and "Another Morning Stoner" are powerfully conveying, musically angst
ridden and vocally cathartic. Other tracks have a much fiercer musical stance,
like the outright blitz of "Homage" and the almost danceable "Baudelaire."
Still other tunes, like "Monsoon," show the band's Texas roots in
good old American rock music. The common thread of the band's overall sound
is marked by swirling dual guitar lines, resonant bass tones and drumming that
sometimes simply accents the music, and other times makes its presence brutishly
known.
…Trail of Dead blends the approachable honesty of indie pop with the ferocious
attack of punk rock and the skewed stance of art rock. It's a blend that is
rich with layers, deep with detail and gloriously loud.
