MxPx

The Renaissance E.P.

Editor's Review:

Returning from their relatively brief stint as major-label darlings, Mxpx have found a new home on Fat, and seem to be all the better for it. Whereas their last release, The Ever Passing Moment, sounded contrived and full of stale tempos and obvious chord progressions, the songwriting on The Renaissance E.P. is a definite step back towards their Life In General heyday. Produced and mixed by vocalist Mike Herrera (who also wrote all the songs), The Renaissance E.P. also features an earthier, rawer production quality that seems to suit the material far better than the more processed sounds of The Ever Passing Moment. Mxpx seem to be back on track, or at least heading in the right direction.
