Pete Yorn

Music for the Morning After

Editor's Review:

The familiar sound of a record scratching opens the title track, "Life on a Chain," and Yorn’s faint, rich voice echoes in the speakers, until the guitar and drums start up and his voice reverberates with a lushness and extravagance over the country twanging music. "Black" has the sparse, lo-fi sound of an early ‘90s emo track, while "Just Another" layers simple guitar riffs with jazzy drums and a haunting voice from Yorn that comes out of nowhere. This album is full of surprises that make multiple listens a joy…each track veers into a total different melodic and musical direction without sounding haphazard or unorganized. If you want something that is tight and musically sound, a voice rivaling Michael Hutchins and lyrics that make you think something new every time, get this.
