C Average

Second Rekoning

Editor's Review:

Indie metal at its finest, C Average makes an impressive and ominous amount of noise for just two guys. That ability to fill the sound up so completely may come from the duo's obvious dedication to all things metal — hard-driving drums punctuated by double bass hits, big and loud cymbal crashes and guitar that not only mongers riffs like Tommy Iommi on crank, but can also scream like Eddie Van Halen in his youth, in both solos and vibrato accents. Of course, the inclusion of those elements and others, as well as song titles like "Starhok the Witch" and "Prolock (The Protector)," not only signal a reverence for all things metal, but also indicate a jocular, tongue-in-cheek take on the genre, which is exactly how it should be.
