Jimmy Eat World

Bleed American

Editor's Review:

Bleed American is about the best goddamn thing I’ve heard in years. The title track, which is also the first single, is deceptively brash; the remainder of the album is sheer sonic creaminess. "Sweetness" is exactly that, replete with sing-along-worthy "whoa-oh-oh"s and that lovable lyrical ambiguity that all true power-pop is required to have. Don’t get me wrong, this album is by no means a popularity ploy on the part of Jimmy Eat World. It is merely a realization of the true nature of the emo-core scene — heartfelt music played by extremely talented musicians. Bleed American is, in my humble opinion, the new benchmark for contemporary rock music. Utilizing the best aspects of the independent scene — musical freedom and sincerity — and taking advantage of the obvious benefits of the major-label scene production and marketing to create an altogether beautiful record.
