the Icarus Line

Mono

Editor's Review:

Okay, I just can't say enough good things about this record. This is what indie rock has been so sorely lacking for so long — real talent, drive for difference and a hefty set of cajonés. From Mono's outset, there is no question as to the relentlessness of their sonic push, but as the album progresses, more becomes apparent about the quintet's songwriting abilities. The screams and fuzzy all-out charges of indie punk begin to incorporate other elements — brutally catchy hooks of a darkly distorted nature, simultaneously (and deliberately) calculated and geniusly fucked-up changes and stops and even some oddly harmonious vocal play. Mono is a roller coaster, both musically and emotionally — an addictive and exhilarating ride.
