Ozomatli

Embrace the Chaos

Editor's Review:

It's been a few years since Ozomatli busted onto the scene with an incendiary first album, music that was born out of social protest and burned bright in that soulful fire. Embrace the Chaos, Ozo's long-awaited sophomore effort, is exactly what fans can expect — 11 songs that blend traditional Latin music with funk and hip-hop to create an undeniably hip-shakin' and soul-stirrin' sound. In that regard, this album is an absolute winner. But there's something missing. Perhaps replacing Jurassic 5's Chali 2na and Cut Chemist with Kanetic Source and a variety of guests (including De La Soul, Common and Will I Am) hurt the album's cohesion; perhaps it's just too clean, too thought out — not enough of that revolutionary fire to roast in. But maybe that's not the point.
