Dredg

Leitmotif

Editor's Review:

As the nu-metal genre is finally being bled dry by corporate musicdom, several variants of this once viable style have sprung up in an attempt to capitalize on the interest in heavy music, while trying to maintain some measure of both dignity and credibility. One of the most dignified of these newbies, Dredg, could be referred to as nu-emotional. Although emotional and melodramatic metal is nothing new, Leitmotif, is in many ways a heretofore-unseen variation. What makes this album good is its introspective nature and unpredictability, but at times that makes it hard to take seriously. If this is the new direction of metal, count me in at Ozzfest next year.
