Is This Room Getting Smaller

Editor's Review:

It would seem fitting if Onesidezero frontman Jason Radford spent his spare time playing in a Tool cover band; his vocals are an almost uncanny replication of Maynard James Keenan. But despite this, and in many ways because of this, Is This Room Getting Smaller is a very engaging album. Avoiding many of the conventions of contemporary heavy music (seemingly in favor of many of the older conventions), Onesidezero nevertheless succeed in making a very smart, modern sounding record. In fact, it would be hard to classify this as “heavy,” it seems much more suited to the “hard rock,” category. This is by no means degradation; in lieu of the quality of much of today’s “heavy” music, “hard rock” seems to be very complimentary indeed. Fans of more introspective hard rock should find this album an interesting proposition.
