Ja Rule

Pain is Love

Editor's Review:

Long accused of borrowing heavily from both the style and content of the late Tupac Shakur’s work, Ja Rule’s latest effort, Pain Is Love follows the Tupac model of hard-hitting, lyrically driven hip-hop over catchy beats interspersed with the obligatory three or so crossover-single-worthy tracks (e.g., the Jennifer Lopez remix of “I’m Real”). The hottest track? The tribute / duo / cover track “So Much Pain,” for which Tupac’s “Pain” is the inspiration, gets points for the cameo and addressing the biting issue as well as its own musical merits. Other good ones include the first single, “Livin' It Up,” and “Lost Little Girl.”
