DJ Food

Now, Listen!

Editor's Review:

In making mix tapes, DJs take the music of other artists and blend it into their own mix, creating a continuous mix of music, the majority of which is recycled from other artists. The trick is to put enough of your own spin on it to make the mix tape an original in its own right, while paying homage to the music's sources. In that regard, DJ Food and DK have succeeded by creating Now, Listen!. This, the latest release in the Ninja Tune Solid Steel series, contains a mix of hip-hop (Jeru The Damaja, X-ecutioners, Motion Man, Blackalicous) to electro and house (Neotropic, David McCallum) to jazz and soul (Herbie Hancock, Commodores) and even a piece of Ray Bradbury writing narrated by Leonard Nimoy, all laced to together in a compelling spectrum of sounds and styles.
