Jay-Z

Unplugged

Editor's Review:

The straight dope on the Jay Z Unplugged album: it's the shit. Seriously. People ask why it's okay to be down with Jay Z these days, and the answer is simple. As a rapper, J-Hova has more skill than many of his contemporaries, and hip-hop anthems like "Izzo," "Hard Knock Life," "Big Pimpin'" and "Heart of the City" have lots of word play that combine the cleverness it takes to set an MC apart in today's rap game with the subject matter that grabs the masses' ears; not to mention the music has plenty of bounce - even more so when The Roots are playing it. And that's what makes Jigga's Unplugged so dope - The Roots, hip-hop's best live band. Live music brings copious life and depth into these songs, and Jay Z never sounded so good.
