31knots

The Rehearsal Dinner EP

Editor's Review:

The latest offering from Portland's 31 Knots defies your average math rock formula by fusing interesting musical complexity and seemingly random rhythmic changes with measureless pent-up emotional energy. The result is a musical work with fantastic diversity and truly expert delivery. With tonality sometimes cloaked in obscurity the trio keeps the listener guessing as to what comes next, providing both a healthy brain exercise for critical listeners and cathartic release for your average rock lover alike. If I were Rush or Yes I'd be green with envy. "Amateur idiot," sums up the best musical moments of those bands' 30-year careers into a two and a half minute-long track. And I hear they're amazing live.
