Karate

Cancel / Sing

Editor's Review:

"Cancel / Sing" represents Karate's foray into longer song structures," is the first line of the press materials that accompanied a promotional version of this album, and as a reviewer, I couldn't have said it better. Karate has always been about wide open aural landscapes - the band's rhythm section (bassist Jeff Goddard and drummer Gavin McCarthy) lay down a solid foundation that is coolly minimalist in it's massive presence, and leaves plenty of room for frontman Geoff Farina's jazz- and rock-influenced guitar licks to run amok in light-rock bliss. The "Cancel / Sing" single contains 20 minutes of music, Karate's deep exploration of two of their own song structures, and the journey is an impressive one indeed, a dynamic and encompassing musical experience of emotive and expressive music.
