Indecisive Youth

Indecisive Youth's second full-length release, Songs To Celebrate The Uncool, proves that this four-piece local act has no intention of leaving this music scene before making its mark. From production quality, to musicality and liner art, this is the best self-financed CD release that I have ever seen and heard.
Though heavier and more mature than Indecisive Youth's first album, From Now On, Songs to Celebrate The Uncool does not do a total 180 from the band's original sound and writing style. Very distinct vocals and up-beat melodies are still the focal point of the music. The tight, well written bass lines and technically sound drumming that we have come to expect from I.Y. are certainly present on this album, and probably better than ever. Not quite pop / not quite hardcore seems to be the theme for I.Y.'s sound, but it's done in such a way that drawing comparisons is difficult; the feel of the music is certainly their own.
If I were to voice one complaint about this album it would be that at times it seems a bit repetitive. The vocals are so distinct that they have a tendency to distract the listener from other things that are going on. They almost lull you into paying strict attention to the singing. Which isn't all bad considering how good it actually is. Just goes to show what you can do if you get off of your ass and make things happen. Record deals be damned, this is do-it-yourself at its finest.
