the Mooney Suzuki

Electric Sweat

Editor's Review:

The Mooney Suzuki broke out of the New York rock scene in 2000 with their amazingly raw, nitro-charged, blues-based People Get Ready. While their 2002 follow-up isn't quite as raw, it's every bit as charged and blues-based, invoking memories of '60s mod rock scenes of New York and London supped-up with a millennial sonic overhaul. Songs like "In a Young Man's Life," "It's Not Easy" and "I Woke Up This Morning" typify the music on Electric Sweat - call-and-response and yelled backing vocals, plenty of guitar solos and slick arpeggio fills, and an undeniably driving and danceable rhythm. The keyboards added to the mix for "It's Show Time PT II" turns the vibe to an up-tempo funky, and the weepy guitar tone on "The Broken Heart" adds the necessary greaser ballad to Electric Sweat's dynamic lineup.
