Avoid One Thing
Avoid One Thing
Editor's Review:
With a resume that includes The Mighty Bosstones, Gang Green, Springheeled Jack and the Raging Teens, this all-star band from Bean Town has found that rather than focusing on the immense pressure to succeed, they can simply enjoy making music with their friends. They list their influences as the Pixies, the Replacements and Jawbreaker, which can be heard, but they tend to sound a little more like Swinging Utters than anyone else. The songs are relatively heavy for the most part, with the exception of a few acoustic numbers. It's great to hear a band with the balls to pull out the acoustic guitars, it shows a lack of pretense that is rare these days. Not to mention it shows a certain amount of talent; playing acoustic is almost like walking around nude. Without all of that distortion all of your imperfections can be heard, and there are none here. I would love to see these guys and girl go far, as they seem to be doing it for all the right reasons. For once I truly can't say anything negative about an album, as much as that behooves me. This is definitely worth checking out. Even if you're not into punk rock there may be something here for you. Sadly this is our only opportunity to enjoy this incarnation of the band, as drummer Dave recently passed. On April 2nd, he suffered a fatal brain aneurysm at the age of twenty-five. An e-mail address has been established for those wishing to express their condolences to his friends and family, Wishes4Dave@aol.com. Our deepest commiseration is with you in your time of loss.- Jim Preston
