Armchair Martian

Who Wants To Play Bass?

Editor's Review:

Aptly titled for the revolving cast of six musicians contributing their talents on bass guitar, Armchair Martian's latest release blends traditional rock and country riffs with fuzzy, distorted guitar noise. The scratchy, nasal twang of frontman Jon Snodgrass lends a quirky charm to some of the tracks while droning on endlessly in others. Up-tempo songs "Losin' Letters" and "Sustated" combine a loose, inventive rock n' roll with Snodgrass' craggy vocals and keenly observant lyrics. However, drowsy ballads "Mexican Song" and "Monsters" and the title track, a half-hour long acoustic reprise of nearly the entire album, cause Who Wants To Play Bass? to drag along.
