Phantom Planet

The Guest

Editor's Review:

Many good things can be said about Phantom Planet's Epic debut. Featuring 12 tracks, The Guest is chock full of tasty hooks and melodies. The quintet undoubtedly has a knack for writing breezy rock tunes. Alex Greenwald's emotive voice makes every chorus feel epic. My only qualms concern the lyrics, which lack any real depth or substance. They are still young though, so this can be forgiven. A synthesizer is discernible on several tracks, notably "Turn Smile Shift Repeat," which is arguably the least sunny song on the entire album. More than anything, I think The Guest shows promise for better music yet to come.
