the Melvins, Fantômas

Millennium Monsterwork

Editor's Review:

As a project of former Mr. Bungle, Faith No More frontman Mike Patton and The Melvins, this album will no doubt go down in hipster history, and given the unique nature of the recording, there's no reason it shouldn't. Captured live at Slim's in San Francisco on New Year's Eve 2000, this absolutely massive recording features a full complement of players from both bands - Fantômas and The Melvins - on stage at once, mixing coherent rock tunes with the kind of apocalyptic hardcore that Fantômas is infamous for. Quite frankly, some of this album is difficult to listen to, but overall this is an interesting combination of live music from two rock icons, and quite possibly will eventually be referred to as a revolutionary record responsible for influencing a whole generation noise rockers.
