Lost Prophets
The Fake Sound Of Progress
Editor's Review:
The Lost Prophets' major label debut, The Fake Sound Of Progress, is
essentially nü-metal. However, the British sextet threw turntables into
their heavy, if not melodic rock sound, giving it a bit of a hip-hop flavor,
as evidenced in "Ode To Summer." A keyboard is discernible on several
tracks, which provides their quirky vision with an extra palette. The band's
slightly tripped-out style echoes that of Incubus, not to mention their willingness
to ease up and go less aggro in favor of more contemplative numbers with delicate
guitar arrangements and syrupy vocals. Half the time this scheme works, while
the rest of the time it just ends up sounding like a watered down version of
itself.
