Sheryl Crow

C’Mon C’Mon

Editor's Review:

Crow's first studio record in four years is rich with the rock 'n' roll aesthetic that she's made a career out of, but it finds the established vocalist branching out in other directions, employing some canned beats and drenching some numbers in uncanny pop sensibility. Sunny acoustic tones are prevalent, as is a generally laid back vibe, though it doesn't totally take away from that little bit of "fuck-you" that's always been important to Crow's music. And while this gracefully aging singer alludes to the slightly hedonistic lifestyle she so joyously used to sing about, and does so within the context of bright, airy tunes, some of the lyrics on C'Mon C'mon show a matured side of Crow, as if the party girl who used to like a good beer-buzz early in the morning might prefer something a little stiffer these days.
