the Hives

Veni Vidi Vicious

Editor's Review:

They've been called Sweden's answer for The Strokes and The White Stripes (even though they've been doing it since 1993). They wear their influences of the Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks on their sleeves. They've been huge in the UK for years, and now, they've come to conquer America. Can they live up to the hype? Hell fucking yes. If Blink 182 were the naked guys pushing each other in shopping carts, then the Hives would be the sophisticated counterparts cheering them on in their black and white attire, smoking packs of clove cigarettes, laughing at their immaturity. The mix of garage band instinct and studio sophistication makes you want to throw down your bottle and dance in the broken glass. Vicious and delicious.

Bio[+]
Formed in the small town of Fagersta, Sweden, this five-piece was originally assembled while the group was still in high school. In their early years, The Hives were prone to inter-member fist-fights that would leave their live set in shambles, but having played music together since 1993, these occurrences were never taken too seriously. Their sound combines ‘60’s mod, ‘70’s punk, and Detroit revival rock into a forceful, swaggering assault. In 1997, the group released their debut album, Barely Legal on Burning Heart Records and followed that up a year later with the A.K.A. I-D-I-O-T E.P. After a brief hiatus, the group returned with Veni Vidi Vicious in 2002.
