Prezident Brown

Showcase, Volumes One and Two

Editor's Review:

Though Prezident Brown hasn't enjoyed the same success on American shores as some of his contemporaries like Pato Banton, this veteran of the irie music scene is the real deal f'sure, and the release of this two double-disc set is proof positive that Prezident Brown's catalogue has and continues to have a lasting impact on reggae music.
The first of the two releases, Showcase Volume One, contains a disc of classic cuts including the somber, yet uplifting album opener "To Jah Only" to the pleasantly defiant "Lionheart." The first disc also includes a few previously unreleased cuts. The second Volume One disc is a dub remix of many of the first CD's best tracks. Showcase Volume Two picks up where Volume One left off, presenting even more previously unreleased tracks and a disc of favorites picked by the man himself. Prezident Brown's lyrical diversity shines through in his music, and songs on subjects from Jah (a popular one) to personal and global struggle, to love and hatred reveal Brown's generally positive view of the world and his work through reggae to bring about a positive change. This collection is the definitive Prezident Brown compendium, fusing a raw, honest dancehall vibe with clean and conscious, Marley-esque music.

Bio[+]
Prezident Brown has been promoting positive, socially and spiritually conscious messages since he began DJing at the age of fourteen. Born in Colonel Ridge, Clarendon Jamaica as Fitz Albert Cotterell, Brown’s original “chanting stylee” of spinning has earned him much praise and recognition. His songs teach the importance of fatherhood, respect for womanhood, and the worship of Jah. His most clandestine work to date is his fourth full-length album To Jah Only. His reggae music is to be shared with everyone, lyrically purveying a culture of understanding, harmony and love.
