Prefuse 73, Mos Def and Diverse

Wylin' Out

Editor's Review:

Just the idea of a collaboration between lyrical master Mos Def and production wonderboy Prefuse 73 is enough to stir interest in this single (available on both CD and wax). With the addition of Diverse and the inclusion of a couple of cool remixes, this latest release in the Urban Renewal Program series is well worth the price of admission. Prefuse 73 has a signature sound rooted in hip-hop that's washed in an ever-so deliberately static-infused, stutter-stepped and comfortably atmospheric tone, and the smooth, laidback deliveries of Mos Def and Diverse are suitable vocal components to the music. The best of two remixes is courtesy of RJD2 and strips down the original beat, backing it with big horn blasts and soulful vocal stabs, making it a ruggedly funky mix.
