Robert Randolph & the Family Band

Live at the Wetlands

Editor's Review:

If the CD's opener, the instrumental romp "Ted's Jam," doesn't inspire you to get up and dance, shake your ass, or at the very least tap your feet, you should get a friend to hold a mirror under your nose to see if you're still breathing. Recorded live in New York City's now closed Wetlands last August, the energy of the crowd and the performance are wonderfully preserved. The band features pedal steel guitar, Hammond organ, bass and drums, and their enthusiastic groove is overwhelming. Vocals, provided by Randolph, are sparse, but the soul of these songs resides mainly in the down-home melodies and powerful rhythms of the eye-opening, invigorating music.
