Mudhoney
Since We've Become Translucent
Editor's Review:
Despite Mudhoney's adherence to the classic, largely blues-based tenets of rock 'n' roll music (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), this Northwestern powerhouse group has always had a natural aptitude for keeping it real in the realest sense of the term and has always flaunted a swaggering sense of individuality. Elements of psychedelia, blues and punk meld in a fiery collision on Since We've Become Translucent; it's all big ballsy guitar riffs backed by slightly scalular bass lines and solid rhythmic backbones with eerie keyboard tones and screaming guitar solos adding the elements of darkness and chaos. Beneath all the fuzz, there are plenty of musical and lyrical hooks to grab a hold of, and a subtle degree of humor is laced throughout this album, evidenced by tracks like "Take it Like a Man," "Baby Can you Dig the Light" and "Where the Flavor Is," in which vocalist Mark Arm beckons the listener, "Come to where the flavor is." Indeed.- Max Sidman
