Black Sabbath
Past Lives
Editor's Review:
Ozzy-mania has gone too far. Luckily, for fans of the "Prince of Fucking Darkness" who find the reality show nerve-grating, the tour tiring and the children annoying, there's Past Lives, a two-disc set of live tracks culled from live Sabbath shows throughout the 1970s. The first disc - captured on tape in two British locations in 1973 - features the classics "Sweet Leaf," "Cornucopia," War Pigs," "Paranoid" and more. Disc two was recorded at various locations and times throughout the 1970s, and contains great songs like "Hand of Doom," "Megalomania" and "N.I.B." among others. Despite slightly varying sound quality, all the tracks on this release are great, and quite frankly, with Ozzy sputtering and hobbling his way to millennial pop-culture status as a twisted, archetypal, American television father, it really is nice to be reminded of why he deserves all this attention in the first place. Black Sabbath ruined my life, and I love them for it.- Max Sidman
