Red Hot Chili Peppers

By the Way

Editor's Review:

As seems to be the case with the last few Chili Peppers releases, By the Way isn't the kind of album you're likely to love on the first listen. It's solid - completely listenable, but lacking the several obvious hits that, say, Blood Sugar Sex Magik boasted. What aren't missing are Anthony's thoughtful lyrics and dynamic delivery and the band's ever-present strong musicianship. If you like the smoothed-out Chili Peppers, tracks like "I Could Die for you," "Dosed," "This Is the Place" and "Don't Forget Me" are for you. Indeed, nearly the entire album mimics the Peppers' mellow past. Great background / road trip music!
