Nas

The Lost Tapes

Editor's Review:

Yeah son, I used to be a shorty once, nahhmean? Like way back in '94 when that Illmatic shit had the classic joints always coming out the boom box, nahhmean? Used to represent everyday, Nasty Nas, "half man, half amazing," nahhmean? Wasn't no iced-out shit sippin' Cristal in an Escalade, it was all about 40s, blunts, beats and rhymes up in Queensbridge, nahhmean? Yeah, well some things never change. On the other hand, Nas sure has changed and so has hip-hop over the past eight years. While this compilation of unreleased (and frequently bootlegged) Nas tracks has got everyone saying it's a throwback to the days of classic Nas, the bottom line is that it's too little too late. Yeah, "No Ideas Original" is dope and so is "Drunk By Myself," but when I want to remember classic underground Nas, my copy of Illmatic will do just fine. Keep your bootlegs.
