Murs

Varsity Blues

Editor's Review:

If you're following the current trends in underground hip-hop, you're probably awaiting the next release from Def Jux's West Coast representative Murs, also of the Living Legends. But if you come across Varsity Blues let me tell you, it might not be what you're expecting. Murs describes Varsity Blues as his "personal therapy," a self-released project available through the Living Legends website, www.llcrew.com, and at live shows. The EP is more of a coming-of-age, conceptual project centered on the blues of a man; an MC coming to terms with himself and the world around him. Only six tracks deep and featuring different production credits for each song, Varsity Blues is Murs' attempt to explain his jaded outlook on life rather than just spit in your face and diss you like he normally would.
