Nirvana

Nirvana

Editor's Review:

Kurt Cobain was a man who always had a problem with fame derived from commercialism, which makes this release kind of ironic. Aside from the highly touted new song, “You Know You’re Right” — which is good, but certainly not the band’s greatest tune — this release is largely made up of stuff that real fans should already possess. The original versions of early greats like “About a Girl,” “Been a Son” and “Sliver” are presented with the Nevermind-era “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Lithium,” “Come As You Are” and “In Bloom.” This eponymous album is filled out with material from the In Utero release and the band’s blockbuster MTV Unplugged appearance, but this release’s main drawback has nothing to do with the music; it’s just that most fans don’t have to be reminded of how great Nirvana was.
