Death Cab for Cutie

You Can Play These Songs with Chords

Editor's Review:

This re-release of Chords - eight demos that Death Cab singer / songwriter Ben Gibbard recorded before the group existed - coupled with 10 early obscure recordings, is both a good introduction for the unacquainted and perfect for the super fan whose cassette bootleg of Chords has finally become too warped to enjoy. This album captures great music from a fledgling group that would eventually become one of the best indie pop bands to emerge from the Pacific Northwest. The liner notes to the 10 bonus tracks include brief self-deprecating, witty and insightful remarks from the band, and an album with Gibbard doing his "best Morrissey impression" on The Smith's "This Charming Man" is simply worth having.
