Swollen Members

Monsters in the Closet

Editor's Review:

Attention all hosers; the Canadian "Rap Gods," who hold two Juno Awards (Canada's equivalent to The Grammys), known as Swollen Members have returned with what they like to call their "second-and-a-half" album. The first reaction might be to assume that Monsters in the Closet is an EP, because of the 'half,' but on the contrary, it's a full-length LP. The Swollen Members decided to call it their second-and-a-half album because this release is nothing but B-sides and remixes. The obvious highlight of the album is the production, which is handled by Mad Child. His beats are distinctive, pleasurable and they sound nothing like The Neptunes, which is a plus. As for the rappers, well, they try. I'm not too impressed, but to each his own. Although most B-side / remix albums tend to be throwaways, Monsters in the Closet is a justified half album.
