Interpol

Turn on the Bright Lights

Editor's Review:

A far cry from the testosterone rock that dominates the airwaves these days, NYC-based band Interpol crosses "the pond" to find its influences. With driving rhythmic guitars and lead singer Paul Banks' languid baritone vocals, Turn on the Bright Lights delivers consistently good rock songs, but this also ends up being the album's sticking point - even after multiple listens, it's hard to distinguish one track from the next. This being said, there are a few songs that deserve mention even if they don't deviate far from the album's formula; "The New" and "NYC" are great cuts despite their radio unfriendliness. This will definitely be a band to follow in the future, as it will be interesting to see what happen when Interpol begins to expand more creatively.
