Table Scraps

Editor's Review:

If you've been following the indie-mercial success of the Definitive Juxtaposition Records roster, the names Rjd2, Camu Tao and Copywrite of the MHz crew should already be household names. The previously mentioned have appeared on various Def Jux releases and formed a supergroup of sorts with other Def Jux artists and named themselves the Weathermen. Rjd2's Dead Ringer and Copywrite's High Exalted have established MHz as a solid crew and garnered them a loyal following outside of their home state of Ohio. Table Scraps is definitely worth the money if you're into the Rjd2 and Copywrite albums released earlier this year, and offers up a CD full of unreleased and out-of-print material as well as digital versions of tracks previously available only on 12-inch vinyl. Copywrite tends to handle most of the lyricism - though Camu Tao makes an occasional verbal appearance - and switches off production credits with Rjd2. Albums of this nature tend to be more of a proof-of-dues-paid release, intended to capitalize on expanded fanbases and thin the wallets of new jack fans who need to be able to claim "down from day one" status. However, this release doesn't seem like it was meant to be an introductory presentation to those who have yet to hear the best material of the MHz crew; this is just more of a complimentary companion CD for the completist hip-hop collector and those impatient fans of Columbus, Ohio's underground who just can't get enough of that dope shit coming out the Midwest.
