Common

Electric Circus

Editor's Review:

Common is one of those MCs who is hard to diss, regardless of personal taste. A man who has chased his dreams of rap stardom all over the Eastern Sea Board in the last 10 years - from Chicago to Philly to NYC and beyond - Common Sense (as he's known to the old school fans) can freak a rhyme like few others, and has proven himself a deft wordsmith with a pen and an open mic. Electric Circus finds the Chicago native delving further into the universal peace and love vibe that permeated his last release. With a slew of smooth tracks produced by The Roots' ?uestlove, The Neptunes and more, Common chops it up on subjects ranging from his own status as one of hip-hop's most slept-on MCs and personal space to the standard love-and-hate fare. No matter how Common lays it down, he comes correct, but fans of the older, rawer Common Sense records might find this a bit overdone.
